FORS
The Friends of Ridge Spring began as the last grocery store in Ridge Spring closed. Danny and Trish Strickland, Lona and Broadus Johnson, and Joe Cal and Betty Watson, business owners, saw a need to pull together business and townspeople to help in advertising the town.
FORS has been instrumental in bringing a library to Ridge Spring, organizing the Peach Tree 23 Yard Sale, creating The Farmer’s Market, creating town rack cards for SC Welcome Centers and town brochures. The group paid for the town’s first web, supports the Ridge Spring Supplement of the Aiken Standard, and hosts Bingo night for the Harvest Festival. The group continues to support the town and its businesses.
FORS meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday at 6:00 at the Library.
AARS
The Art Association of Ridge Spring had its beginning in 2007 when several local artists met to explore the possibility of beginning a group interested in the arts.
The group was offered the use of the former Ridge Spring School building and the rooms quickly filled with art. The group has grown and members have renovated the old building to provide a general meeting room, as well as spaces for classes to meet, and three gallery rooms.
The Center offers many types of art for sale including: watercolor, acrylic, mosaic, gourd art, pottery, photography, oils, encaustic wax painting, and jewelry.
Membership is encouraged, but the gallery is free to all. Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 at the Art Center of Ridge Spring.
